Professor Pierre Jaïs has been appointed General Director of the Electrophysiology and Heart Modeling Institute, LIRYC, by its Administrative Board.
He will take up his new duties on February 1st, 2021. He succeeds Professor Michel Haïssaguerre, founder of the institute, who has been appointed Honorary President.


Professor Pierre Jaïs will lead the Institute for a 4-year term and take up the strategic challenges ahead, both in terms of the major scientific and clinical issues at stake and the Institute’s ambitious business model. He has been heavily involved in Liryc since its inception, alongside Prof. Michel Haïssaguerre, and was Liryc’s Deputy Director, together with Dr. Mélèze Hocini from 2012. Professor Michel Haïssaguerre will continue to actively participate in the scientific life of Liryc and more generally as Honorary President.


Prof. Pierre Jaïs is Professor at the University of Bordeaux and head of the electrophysiology unit at Bordeaux University Hospital. He is an internationally renowned expert who has made seminal contributions identifying the origin of atrial fibrillation and the mechanism of its maintenance. Driven by technological and clinical innovation, he will be focusing as General Director on strengthening the multidisciplinary and translational aspects of the institute.
